Independence Day Resurgence

Independence Day: Resurgence is the sequel to one of the most beloved sci-fi action film since Star Wars. Fans have been waiting almost 20 years for this movie and boy are they going to be pissed!

Normally in our reviews this is the part where we talk about the characters and the plots but in this movie there is a huge lack of both. The plot is razor thin and so are all of the 1,000 characters that they introduced in this sequel. Main characters from the first film feel shoe horned in and you probably won’t remember the name of the new plot anchors the studio hired to fill their roles.

The aliens are back and they are mad. Earth has rebuilt and we thought we were safe but just like the studio knew we would all come back to this sequel, as predicted the aliens come back to destroy Earth. I want to take this time and acknowledgment that the original Independence Day is a long way from Oscar worthy, but it knew what it was and kept the tone fun and cheesy. Some say that the original Independence Day was the first real summer blockbuster and ushered in a new era of film going, and you really can’t deny their expert use of special effects. This movie however lacks the self-acknowledgment from the first film, as well as the likeable characters and any heart. The best part of this movie was the nap I took when I fell asleep during the big action scene, because that is how little I cared about anything that was happening in this movie. There honestly hasn’t been such a grab for studio money since the last time Michael Bay took a shit on the screen for a Transformer movie.

Please save your money don’t see this; the first Independence Day is on HBO so spend the day doing that or frankly anything else.
