If I had two people like this in my life I don’t know if I would want to ban them from my wedding or make them my groomsmen…. They will for sure mess it up, but what an amazing party!
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is not only an extremely long title but also based on a true story. After being told by their family the two brothers need to bring dates to their sister’s wedding, Mike and Dave post an ad on craigslist to find “good girls” to take on an all-expenses paid trip to Hawaii. Their post goes viral and is found by two trashy girls who decide to “clean up their act” and get invited on the vacation of a lifetime. Enter Aubury Plaza and Anna Kendrick as the girls you would never take home to mom. Mike and Dave, played by Adam Devine and Zac Effron, decide to take these two and it doesn’t go as well as they hoped.
Comedies are extremely hard to do, with a summer flooded with trash (I’m looking at you ghost busters) this movie stands out. Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is predictable and plays out exactly like you think, but where it really jumps off the screen is the interactions between some heavy hitting leads. The guys are relatable and interact like me and my friends do. Their story progresses through the film and you instantly fall in love with the bumbling dummies. The girls also have their own arc that gives the characters good depth, and they interact very differently than their male counterparts. This movie is also filled with amazing pop culture references; laugh out loud jokes, and just enough heart to keep you interested in what will happen next.
This movie is no wedding crashers and isn’t going down on anyone’s list of top 10 comedies, but it was really fun!
I highly recommend seeing this movie if not in the theaters with some buddies and some beer. It is quotable, funny, and FUN.
