Justice League is a movie people have been waiting for, a very long time. Ever since seeing The Avengers fans have been calling from the roof tops “Where is my Justice League movie?” The road to this film has been rocky, critically up and down. True fans have stuck around, and our reward…. A mediocre movie.

Haters gunna hate, people will either like this film going in or not. The film is not strong enough to change people’s minds and not so bad that fans will write it off forever. The disadvantage Justice League has from the jump is the weak foundation the DC universe has built upon. Between Man of Steel, Wonder Women, BvS, and Suicide Squad, this film is starting off in hole before it’s opening credits.

Stuff I liked- The strongest thing that this movie does is create distinct characters that more closely resemble the ones we are familiar with in the comics. Superman is back to bright blue, Batman does not kill (humans), Flash is funny, Cyborg is troubled, and Wonder Women is a bad ass. This film is a correction from the other movies, reestablishing the heroes again and creating chemistry between the team. I think this movie did a great job with that and because of these corrections I am interested in where they go next.

I also thought the action scenes were visually stunning, watching the hero’s fight in their unique styles was just about as exciting as it gets for a DC fan! Cyborg hacking, Flash running, Wonder Women slicing, and Batman hiding makes these scenes at least fun to watch.

Stuff I didn’t like- The story was bad. Let’s be honest with ourselves, the Marvel movies do not have Shakespearian plots either, but this plot was BAD. The story just didn’t make any sense, it felt like most of the important plot points happened off screen and we just missed how they came to such extreme conclusions.

It also lacked a real sense of heart until the very end. They want it to be Lois and Clark but I just don’t give a shit about them. It’s been 3 full movies now (MoS, BvS, JL) and I still think they are dull, dry, and unlikable. I care about Pepper and Tony, they have seen some shit together and have multiple dimensions to their relationship. Lois and Clark are in love and…… That’s it. This is really where Marvel movies win. We CARE about their characters, Dr. Strange and Thor sit down for a drink and I’m at the edge of my seat. Superman has Batman by the neck and I’m like “Wonder how they are going to explain this one…”

Wrap up- The ending of this movie, including the after-credit scenes, gives me hope for the franchise going forward. It pushed the reset on a lot of its issues and with Justice League as a new starting place I am excited by what this could become.
