Rogue One

Rogue One

Every year… Every year Disney is going to be spitting out a Star Wars film for fans boys to lose their minds over… And if they are all like Rouge One, I say bring it on!

Rouge One is a side story for the Star Wars universe that follows a band of rebels before episode 4 as they steal the plans to the Death Star. This movie is basically the opening crawl of Episode 4 (A New Hope) and helps give context to the rebellion before Luke, Han, and Leia get involved.

This story does a good job of tying together the story you know with new characters and new elements. Rouge One is definitely a story for fans of Star Wars and it includes a lot of things fans of the original trilogy will love. They also play with a slightly darker tone then what we are used to, which added gravity to this actual battle and war in this film.

This new band of rebels has interesting moments, but with a group of almost 6 no one really gets their time to shine. I think that if you are a Star Wars fan this film delivers tons of cool elements from the universe that are reused or used differently in this film. Where the movie falls short is telling an independent story. This film leans so heavily on you knowing the story and characters of Star Wars, that if you are unfamiliar you may miss the excitement and the fun the creators had dropping easter eggs.

Overall I really enjoyed myself in this film and being a massive Star Wars fan, I enjoyed the rehashing of some of my favorite elements from the original films. The criticism is that is that the story is safe and uses nostalgia to hold up an otherwise thin movie. I still enjoyed the Force Awakens more, but Rouge One is a must see for any Star Wars fan.

Final Score: 4 out of 5 new merchandising toys
