Blockers

Cock blockers is a story as old as American Pie (the movie not the food), 3 teen girls make a sex pact to lose their virginity at prom. The only problem is the parents find out and make a pact of their own; to stop that from happening by any means necessary.   

This film is pretty straight forward, but it takes an old premise I have seen before and puts on a couple of new twists that I really liked. The first change is that the sleezy teens in this movie are girls instead of the typical male leads. The change leads to some interesting perspective changes and gives you a funny look into how females would react to a sex pact. The Second change is having the parents know about the pact and having them actively trying to stop it.

This movie really follows the parents as they learn about, try to prevent, and ultimately accept the sex pact their daughters make. (SPOILERS, but you aren’t watching the movie for the deep plot come on), Only one of the girls actually goes through with the sex pact, and it is not treated like a notch on their belt. Each of the characters maturely back out when the moment does not feel right in a way that feels real.

Ok, enough about the plot, was it funny? Yes-ish. I had friends that saw this film that thought it was funnier than I did, but overall the jokes are solid and raunchy enough to take you off guard. John Cena is amazing and his comedic timing is spectacular in this film. The jokes were not all perfect, and the trailer highlights most of the funniest parts, but overall this was a solid, enjoyable movie.

Overall Blockers was an interesting take on a movie that I have seen before. It had some laugh out loud moments, but it did not feel like an instant classic. If you have seen this movie once that is probably enough, and you won’t remember it until it lands on TBS for re-runs.
