Deadpool 2

A movie sequel unlike any other, Deadpool 2 takes the irreverence and violence to a whole other level. Deadpool’s sense of irony, quick wit, and willingness to be different makes this one of my favorite franchises happening right now.

Deadpool 2 picks up right where the last Deadpool movie ends, Venessa is saved, and now this Merc with the Mouth is taking down bad guys around the world, talking shit the whole way. When he gets in a little over his head a change in perspective puts him on a path that connects him to a host of odd characters in an adventure that end up deciding how the future of this world will look.

Deadpool 2 is just as funny as the original and the same sense of humor shines through this refreshing take on super hero movies. Deadpool references pop culture, other characters He and the other actors in the movie have played and breaks the forth wall in order to let you in on the joke. This formula works well, the issue is that it is not quite as refreshing or unique as the first time we all saw it. The story is better, there is more depth to Wayne (Deadpool), but it feels a bit like eating two burritos at Taco Bell. I am craving a burrito and the first bite tastes so good, but after a full burrito the second one doesn’t have that same satisfying bite.

I am not saying I didn’t full enjoy Deadpool 2, I just think that the fans preferred the original. I felt the same way about Guardians of the Galaxy. Once you push that toothpaste out of the tube, it is hard not to let expectations run away. The acting is great in this movie, the action is funny and interesting, and overall I think the story is bigger and more ambitious. There is just something about Deadpool so focused on one task and one mission that made that first movie so different than the standard “The world is ending” films that happen 6 times a summer now.  

Deadpool 2 was a really solid movie that I will definitely see again, it is upstaged only by its original, and I don’t think that is such a horrible thing.
